INSTRUCTOR TRAINING ACCESSIBLE SOLUTIONS
"Accessible Education" successfully addressed the needs of instructors in the product design program at Flatiron School. This adaptive presentation provided valuable insights into accessibility approaches and activities that can be integrated into their curriculum from the sensory perspectives of neurodiverse individuals to stimulate learner thinking beyond neuro normative comprehension.
This presentation enabled instructors to adapt their curriculum to foster inclusivity and personalized learning for students with diverse needs, resulting in a more accessible and effective educational experience for the whole student cohort.

1
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
-
Incorporate accessibility approaches and activities into their curriculum to promote inclusivity and personalized methods for learners with diverse needs.
-
Discuss sensory perspectives of neurodiverse learners to stimulate thinking beyond neuro-normative comprehension.
2
ANALYSIS
In-class observations revealed the need for incorporating accessibility approaches and activities into the individual instructor curriculum could significantly improve the learning experience for students with diverse needs in group learning, hands-on learning (Labs), productivity breaks, accessibility integrations in the LMS and assessment options.
3
DESIGN & DEVELOPMENT
This was piloted with a select group of 2 instructors to gather feedback and make necessary refinements. I built a presentation that included valuable insights into multiple accessibility approaches and activities that instructors could choose from. In this toolbox, I incorporated multimedia elements, interactive activities, and instructional materials to challenge instructors to think outside their box.
4
IMPLEMENTATION & EVALUATION
Feedback was collected from instructors over the course of 4-weeks post-presentation in order to measure the success of the project in meeting its objectives. Instructors note the ease in having access to adaptive strategies and discussed their implementation of accessibility approaches with their cohort. The presentation had a positive impact on the instructor experience and student response, by successfully meeting student needs for a more accessible and effective learning environment.
